Had the pleasure of going to Lisa! After a recent trip to New Orleans, I found myself quite interested in hats. By coincidence the Kentucky Derby was around the corner so I decided to invest in a nice hat for my Derby Parties. I visited several upscale hat shots in New Orleans and New York before coming to Lisa Shaub. From the experience to the selections to the pricing, Lisa blows them out the water. First thing first – she’s personable and while she makes such fine things, she doesn’t take herself too seriously. That’s super important these days. In other stores, I didn’t feel as welcome and maybe it’s just because they are used to a lot of people dropping in – but a 100-600 investment in a hat is not an easy task. Lisa let me take my time, no pressure and showed me various items in different price ranges. The price point is important: at other stores I found less variety in prices and they also failed to tell me WHY one hat can cost more or less than another. Sometimes it’s not easy to spot with a naked eye but understanding some hat making techniques/material makes you appreciate the product so much more. I understand why this can become so much of a hobby. I also think Lisa’s approach is valuable – most of my millennial peers aren’t hat wearers but maybe I’ll start a trend lol. Lisa is truly passionate about hats and wants everyone to walk away both happy with their product and happy too about a memorable experience. I was also lucky that my visit coincided with a major news outlet visiting the store to interview Lisa – I truly enjoyed listening to her story and how she’s services so many women across the country for the derby and daily needs. She’s an aspiring woman! While today’s hat is for the derby, I look forward to working with Lisa in the future. Have some ideas in mind for my next one 🙂 yes, she does a lot of custom.

“I live out of town, but on NYC trips ALWAYS visit Lisa Shaub for fabulous and affordable hats. My favorites are her winter wool berets. I have several of them in various colors. Lisa is usually working in the shop and always gives good objective opinions on which hat looks best on me. Definitely a five-star shopping and fashion experience.

Tip: if Lisa’s in the shop she can custom-make a hat for you. On my last trip she had a cute style winter hat, but in a color I didn’t love. She offered to make the same hat and gave me several choices of colors and trims. I left the store to do some more shopping and she called me on my cell a couple of hours later to say my hat was ready. Wow!”
